A question that comes up in almost every onboarding call with new owners: what does aircraft insurance actually require, and who is enforcing it?

Most pilots are surprised to find out the FAA does not require it, but their airport, lender, and in some states their state government do. There is also the named pilot warranty, which catches a lot of first-time owners off guard.

So we put together a guide on exactly what each party expects and how to read your policy before something goes wrong: https://www.skywatch.ai/blog/aircraft-insurance-requirements-airport-lender-state

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is spread across 16 host cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. For a lot of pilots, that's not just a sports event, it's a reason to fly somewhere new.

Before you file the flight plan, here's what your aviation insurance needs to cover:

- Does your policy cover flights to Canada and Mexico host cities?
- TFRs over stadiums — know the no-fly zones on match days
- Hull coverage when your plane sits overnight at an unfamiliar FBO
- Passenger liability when you bring friends to the game
- Annual vs. on-demand: which makes sense for a World Cup trip?

Flying drones near a World Cup venue this summer?

The FAA has established strict No Drone Zones around all 16 host stadiums. On match days, drones are prohibited within 3 nautical miles and up to 3,000 feet AGL, enforced by the FAA, FBI, and DHS.

What you need to know:
- TFRs activate hours before kickoff at every venue
- Fan festivals and base camps have their own 1NM restrictions
- Violations carry fines up to $75,000 and potential criminal charges
- Most drone insurance policies don't cover unauthorized TFR flights

We're excited to announce our new partnership with Bees360, a technology-driven property underwriting inspection network.

Through this partnership, Bees360 inspectors can access drone insurance through a dedicated SkyWatch portal, purchase coverage instantly, generate Certificates of Insurance, and list Bees360 as an additional insured when required.

Bees360 also gains full visibility into insurance compliance across its inspector network, keeping everyone covered without the administrative overhead.

"We're excited about this partnership and look forward to working together," said Andy Liu, CEO and Co-Founder of Bees360. "SkyWatch makes it easier for our inspector network to access the coverage they need and stay compliant while serving customers in the field."

"Bees360 has built an impressive technology-driven inspection network, and insurance is a natural part of enabling that network to operate efficiently at scale," said Tomer Kashi, CEO and Co-Founder of SkyWatch. "Our goal is to make insurance simple, fast, and embedded into the way drone operators already work."

Kel has been a SkyWatch customer for two years.

She flies rented Piper Cherokees and Cessna 172s around Kansas City, and covers every flight with SkyWatch Aircraft Renters Insurance. She's also a content creator and SkyWatch brand ambassador, and this is what she had to say:

"I chose SkyWatch Insurance because it just makes sense for the way a lot of pilots actually fly. It's simple, flexible, and doesn't feel overwhelming."

Key takeaways from her story:
- Renter pilots need coverage that fits how they actually fly, not a policy built for aircraft owners
- Students and CFIs already have enough to manage
- The best insurance is the kind you don't have to think about
