Have you seen the forecast for this weekend? It seems like a good time to review winter driving tips! ❄️
1) Stay home if possible and enjoy the snow from your warm home
2) Accelerate, brake, and drive slowly
3) Allow the car ahead of you more space
4) Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread
5) Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze-up
And if you plan on heading to the mountain to do some skiing or snowboarding this weekend, make sure that you have chains that fit your vehicle and you are comfortable putting them on!

I AM BACK!!! My 1 year no silicit contract from my previous company has expired as of today. I am so excited!
I can now share that I am an independent insurance broker. This means I have access to 40+ insurance companies to help find you the best price and coverage to fit your needs. I can even help with all kinds of commercial or business insurance.
Let me know if you would like me to review your current coverages and find you better options.

5 things to know about OSHA’s COVID-19 temporary rule

Oregon OSHA has adopted a temporary rule to address the COVID-19 pandemic in all Oregon workplaces. The rule will go into effect November 16, and will remain in effect until May 4, 2021.

Here are five points to get you started when preparing to implement the rule in your business.

Physical distancing
Employers must ensure that all individuals, including customers, vendors, and patrons, within the workplace be six feet apart unless it can be shown it is not feasible for some activities.

Masks/face coverings
Employers must assure that all individuals ages 5 and older use face coverings, in accordance with requirements from the Oregon Health Authority. Employers also must supply face coverings at no cost to employees. Employees may choose to use their own masks. Face shields may be used but should be limited to those who cannot wear a mask, as masks are more effective.

Cleaning
Employers must provide employees with supplies and time for more frequent cleaning and to perform hand hygiene before using shared equipment, eating, or touching the face or eyes. Common areas, shared equipment, and high-touch surfaces must be cleaned frequently, depending on how long workplaces are occupied. Check the OSHA rule for more details.

Posting requirements
OSHA has created a COVID-19 Hazards Poster in English and Spanish. It must be posted in a central location where workers will see it. If employees are working remotely, the employee must be provided with the information electronically. Signs must be posted in places where face coverings are required.

Exposure risk assessment
With feedback and participation from employees, employers must assess potential exposure to COVID-19 within the workplace. Employers with 10 or more employees or those at workplaces with exceptional risk must document the assessment in writing. See pages 9-11 of the OSHA rule for what must be specifically recorded, and the questions that must be addressed. Oregon OSHA has created a fillable exposure risk assessment form. SAIF is developing a combination exposure risk assessment/infection control plan as an option for employers to use.

Some requirements have deadlines as early as November 23, so be sure to carefully read the full details of the rule here.

The rule also has industry-specific and activity-specific requirements, and provisions for workplaces of exceptional risk, including enhanced training, additional infection control plan requirements, and specific ventilation requirements. These requirements supersede guidance in the rule and when areas are not addressed, the general rule applies.

A permanent rule addressing infectious diseases in the workplace is also in the works and could be implemented in 2021.

Questions from clients about fires and their insurance...

- Is fire covered on my home insurance? Yes, it is covered on all homeowner, condo, landlord and renters policies. It does not matter the type of fire. All fire and smoke damage is covered.

- Are my possessions covered? Yes, your possessions are covered. It is extremely important to have proof of your possessions. Make sure before you are evacuated, that you take a video of your entire home. Open every closet, drawer and cabinet. Talk through the video with items that are extra important or hard to replace.
The insurance company will ask for what you lost and the video will help make that process easier.
This is something that everyone should do at least once a year. Once you make the video, email it to yourself so you have it in the cloud.

- If I am evacuated, how do I afford a hotel? Your insurance policy may be able to help even if there is no damage to your property. Check with your insurance company to see if they will pay any "Additional Living Expenses" for your situation. Some companies may not require you to pay your deductible.

- Can I add or change my coverage? Depends on the insurance company you use and zip code you live in. Companies will suspend any coverage changes or new policies in specific areas based on their perceived fire danger. This is true for all types of weather/natural disasters.
The best thing to do is call your agent early to make sure you have the coverage you need.

- Is my vehicle covered if I have to leave it behind? Yes, if you have comprehensive coverage on your policy it is covered.

* These are general statements. All coverage is subject to verification and claims adjusters plus your deductible. Check with your insurance company to confirm you have coverage or read your policy.

AirNow and the U.S. Forest Service have launched a pilot project to show data from low-cost sensors on the Fire and Smoke Map. The goal of the project is to provide additional air quality information during wildfires – especially in areas with no AirNow monitors. See the map.
