What happens after you file a claim?

After a claim is filed, the insurance company opens an investigation and assigns an adjuster to review the damage or loss. Depending on the situation, they may request photos, estimates, receipts, recorded statements, or inspections before making a decision. One of the best things you can do is contact your insurance agent first so they can help gather the facts and make sure the claim is reported properly from the beginning. A good agent can also step in during the process if questions come up or if you need help communicating with the adjuster. Once coverage is confirmed, payment is typically issued based on the terms of the policy and your deductible. Simple claims can move quickly, while larger or more complex losses may take additional time.

When asked why I got into insurance, it made me think... I’ve always been passionate about serving others, my love language is servicing others. My mom runs a tax and accounting service, I’ve always had it in my life of helping others. I also worked at restaurants, I enjoyed serving and seeing reactions out of people and helping them!

3 things homeowners insurance does not usually cover

A lot of homeowners assume their policy covers every type of damage, but there are some important gaps that surprise people. Standard homeowners policies usually do not cover flood damage, normal wear and tear, or backup of sewers and drains unless additional coverage is added. Expensive jewelry, fi****ms, collectibles, and certain dog breeds may also have limited coverage depending on the policy. It’s always worth reviewing these details before a loss happens instead of finding out afterward during a claim.
