Did you know that Michigan is 1 of 12 states working to implement a MANDATORY and GOVERNMENT RAN long term care plan?

Washington already passed their plan into law. California and New York are organizing their plan with a task force and may have the law passed as early as this year.

Similar to Social Security, this will be funded through a payroll tax. The tax amount and benefit amount will be determined by the state.

Unlike Social Security, there will be a LOOP HOLE to OPT OUT of this plan.

To opt out, you will need a qualifying personal long term care policy. This policy can be a stand alone long term care plan OR a rider on a life insurance product.

My son Aiden is 14. He is the quirky one that ended up blonde hair, blue eyes and left handed. He has given me reason to stress and worry because he thinks and does things different than me. He uses his brain different, processes situations different, and sees a side to the world I can only see through him. ( What a blessing he is 🙏)

Naturally, he is a saver. From allowance to birthday money to good grade money-he stashes it away and spends very little (I'd like to say I taught him good but it's been his natural tendency since he was young)

Aiden came to me about a month ago with an idea to start lifting weights. Now we don't have a set up at home (except for my 10lb dumbells which he had already been borrowing for awhile) and we don't have a ton of gym options nearby. So when he came to me with this idea - I was a, well, a realistic pessimistic adult 🤷‍♀️. I told him we don't have any good options and the options we do have are too far away so how would he get there and they are expensive. (way to go mom brain shutting an idea down before it even gets going 🤦‍♀️)

BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED???

He came right back and said this is MY idea, MY dream and it's worth overcoming these roadblocks! He asked if we would take him to check out the gym across town (2 miles away) where he met the owner of the gym. He used his newly earned "good grade $" from grandma and paid up front for 3 months. He put a weekly workout schedule together so he stayed on track. He mapped out the way there so he could ride his bike there.

AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT???

He did exactly what he said he would do! After school he would grab a protein shake and pack his gym bag and take off on his bike! (In the rain, in the snow, in the wind, in the cold) When he would come home he was beaming from excitement and accomplishment! And this didn't stop after the first day or first week (like so many workout plans I have started and then quit 😂) He is going strong a month later with no plans to stop.....

CAN YOU IMAGINE IF HE WOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ME?

Did you know that by age 3, kids can understand basic money concepts? By age 9, many of their money habits are already set?! 😲

Financial education really is a process and it starts when we are young and builds in an age-appropriate way.

As a teacher, coach and parent myself, I want to give my children (and all the children in my life) a better opportunity.

💥Here are a few ideas to help build that financial literacy muscle in the little ones in your life! 💥

Start by exposing them to money and what the different coins and bills mean.  Have them help you at the store and show them how much their favorite snacks or toys cost.

Help them understand the difference between needs and wants and how to plan for small expenses and big ones.  “If you spend all your allowance on online games and snacks every week you miss the opportunity to save for some of the bigger more expensive wants.  Kids are naturally impulsive and lack patience so they need help learning delayed gratification (and the power it has really in all aspects of life)

Let your kids spend 💰💰💰 and FAIL (yes, you read that right) with money when they are young.  This is an opportunity to teach them about spending and saving in a “safe space”. It will help them build a positive and healthy relationship with money.

Finally, pick up a few financial books yourself. If you feel like you don't have the knowledge, experience or education to help your children - then start learning together 🤗

And remember, you are never too young or too old to learn and grow 🙌

I have never liked the saying "Live everyday as if it were your last"

When I think about "the last day" there are several things that fill my head and my heart.

Fear of the unknown.
Disappointment from the missed opportunities. Regret from the what ifs.

What if, instead we treat every new day as if it were Day 1. Day 1s are full of wonderful feelings.

Like the ENERGY that comes from Day 1 of a new workout.

Like the LOVE that comes on Day 1 as a parent.

Like the HOPE that comes from Day 1 as a new Christian.

Like the COMMITMENT that comes on DAY 1 after marriage.

Like the COMPASSION that comes on DAY 1 when we serve others.

Can you imagine what kind of impact we can have if we think about every new day as day 1?

What does financial freedom look like to you? If you close your eyes and imagine your life without the worry and stress that money places on you.

On your heart. On your relationships. On your time. On your family.

What does that look like? Are you there yet? Are you going in the right direction? What's in your way? What's stopping you from having that life?

We all deserve to live a life of love, happiness and freedom.

Financial freedom IS a choice you can make for your family.

This picture is from our family vacation this past Thanksgiving. Where we played in the light of the sunset with our kids and our friends. Where we laughed, smiled, hugged, danced and soaked up every last bit of sun and water we could.

This picture represents freedom to me. This picture makes me excited to help other families chase down their financial dreams. This picture reminds me of the urgency to help, so that other families can wake up and start living their dreams
