Wood stoves and space heaters can keep your home warm, but they also come with real fire risks. Use these safety tips to stay protected 🏠🔥:
• Keep them clear: Maintain safe distance from curtains, bedding, paper, and furniture.
• Use the right surfaces: Place heaters on stable, non-flammable floors (use manufacturer-approved pads).
• Never leave unattended: Turn off and unplug when you leave the room or go to sleep.
• Use proper ventilation: Keep chimneys/flues clean and use the correct venting for wood stoves.
• Install a CO alarm: For wood stoves especially, carbon monoxide is dangerous—use working detectors.
• Don’t use extension cords: Plug space heaters directly into outlets.
• Inspect regularly: Check for cracks, damaged cords, and loose parts before each season.
• Keep children & pets away: Use a barrier or keep a “kid/pet safe zone.”
