Its Father’s Day and for the 4th one in a row I don’t have one of my kid’s with me! I wanted to be a teacher from a young age so that I could be home early to see my family. Now I am in constant battle just to see them. I fought for custody but during mediation my ex’s attorney said “Who is the judge for our case? He flipped a few pages then leaned back in his chair relaxed and smugly said to my attorney “ We have Judge _____, he’s a good ol momma’s boy who always sides with the mom, you know that,” My attorney pulled me aside and told me he was right and that I had better take what I can get. I stayed involved. I visited twice during the week and every other weekend. I couched his teams, lead Boy Scouts, did presentations at his school, etc. I also paid child support every month on time. I won’t go into details but had to fight for emergency custody a few times but later was faced with the fact that my ex wanted to move 5 states away for what she said would financial independence. (she already had no rent). Again afraid to lose in court I agreed to her offer that if she could move she would send him Every month, every Thanksgiving and spring break and all summer long. She threw in that because she would have financial independence that she would not ask for child support to offset any expense I incur (traveling to Orlando monthly to get him and any trip up to see him). After 2 years she was held in contempt because she missed 14 times and I had paid for 4 of the few that she did send him. She admitted to the judge that the 7 month span she would not let me see him was because she was mad at me. She was caught lying under oath to the judge 4 times (mostly about her income). The judge took 5 months to reach a verdict (obviously forgetting half of went on in the courtroom where he came down on her hard). Not only do I now have to pay for all of his flight but also $550 per month – she was rewarded for being in contempt of our agreement! Fair? – I will fight this until I die and I will help others fight judgments like this one!
