In December of 2024, Merchants & Farmers Bank partnered with Vernon Parish Head Start (Birth to 5) to give children the best start in life with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, inspired by Dolly Parton’s own dad, who couldn’t read or write.

While our hearts are incredibly sad today, we’re more inspired than ever to ensure that her legacy of love continues to find its way into the hands and hearts of children for generations to come. Together, we are building a brighter future for all the children in Vernon Parish.

Fort Polk Progress proudly announces that Merchants and Farmers Bank will be the Presenting Sponsor of the Annual Community Briefing and Military Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, September 10th beginning at 5:15 pm for the hospitality time and Banquet starts at 6:00p.m.

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce will be the host of the event that evening.

The event will be held at the Leesville Event Center at 608 Nolan Trace in Leesville. Reservations are required.

Leesville, LA—Rhonda Dowden, Executive VP of Merchants & Farmers Bank announces Kash Wisby from Pitkin High School is the 2026 recipient of the $500 Perry Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

Kash is the son of Tommy and Dana Wisby. He graduated with a 3.1 GPA and was a member of 4-H and FCA, while participating in basketball and baseball.

Kash will be continuing his education at Sowela Technical Community College in Lake Charles, Louisiana, seeking a degree in Business and HVAC.

Merchants & Farmers awards this scholarship each year in memory of Perry Johnson, a long-time officer and dedicated employee who worked at the bank for 22 years. He was an athlete and graduate of Pitkin High School, class of 1965.
