Last week, we partnered with the Voices of Freedom Collective Foundation in Lake Charles to present the Freedom Opportunity Scholarship Brunch. Students from SWLA were awarded $1,000 scholarships each to help offset higher education costs. We are proud to be a part of this event where community really feels celebrated. It's an honor to support these students and this organization!

Today, we recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Financial abuse is one of the most common and least reported forms of elder abuse. The people targeted by these crimes and scams are best protected by their financial caregivers. Today, we're talking to you, the ones who can help protect our seniors and can be their first line of defense. Here are some protective tips from the American Bankers Association:

✔️Build a financial inventory: Organize all accounts, recurring bills, and digital access together to ensure transparency.
✔️Keep assets separate: Never co-mingle your personal funds with your loved one’s finances to protect both parties legally.
✔️Spot the red flags: Stay vigilant against sophisticated senior scams, unusual account withdrawals, or sudden changes in wills.
✔️Maintain detailed records: Document every transaction to prevent misunderstandings and create a clear paper trail.
✔️Establish legal authority: Secure formal status, such as a Power of Attorney (POA) or trustee designation, to act properly on their behalf.
