The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a scam that continues to resurface in our area.

Scammers are calling family members of incarcerated individuals, pretending to represent a bonding company and offering to “help” get their loved one out of jail.

👉 Here’s how the scam works:
• They may provide a local address or phone number to appear legitimate
• They request payment using cryptocurrency or money transfer apps
• They may offer additional “services” and ask for extra fees, including payments for ankle monitors they claim are required for release

💡 Protect yourself:
• Don’t rush — scammers rely on pressure
• Verify information by contacting businesses directly
• Never send money based on a phone call
• Trust your instincts — if it feels off, hang up

This has happened to several people already so please be careful. I talked to a lady yesterday that sent a large amount of money to them and when they realized it was a scam they made a police report. After they reported them, they started making threats to them. Hopefully they find out who is doing this and put them in jail.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: BONDING SCAM RESURFACING IN CALCASIEU PARISH 🚨

Sheriff Stitch Guillory is warning residents about a bonding scam that is once again circulating in our area.

Scammers are contacting family members of incarcerated individuals, pretending to represent a bonding company, and in some cases, even claiming to be CPSO deputies. Some callers are using the real names of CPSO employees and providing details about the arrestee’s charges that they likely obtained online to appear legitimate.

They then try to convince victims they can bond their family member out and ask for payment, in most cases through cryptocurrency, Zelle, or Cash App.

THIS IS A SCAM.

Please remember:
• ❗️Don’t be pressured into making quick decisions
• 🔍 Independently verify any business or caller before sending money
• 🚫 Never send funds based on a phone call or email alone
• 🛑 Trust your instincts: if something feels off, hang up and report it

CPSO ARRESTS STUDENT FOR MENACING

Lake Charles, LA –

Earlier today, at approximately 2:00 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Leblanc Middle School in Sulphur, in reference to a student found with a “hit list”.

During the investigation the 12 year old girl admitted to making the list. She was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with terrorizing-menacing. “We have zero tolerance when it comes to threatening behavior towards or at our schools,” stated Sheriff Stitch Guillory. “Whether it is said in anger or as a joke, all threats will be taken seriously and investigated fully and an arrest will be made when warranted.”

CPSO Lt. Kara Adams is the lead investigator on this case. The Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted in the investigation.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
