A Roth conversion isn't about avoiding taxes altogether. It's about deciding when you pay them.

Pay now, at a rate you know. Or pay later, at a rate you don't. That's the real trade-off, and the right answer depends on your current tax bracket, what you expect it to look like in retirement, and how a conversion could affect things like Medicare premiums.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer here. This is exactly why it's worth running the numbers before you convert anything.

Most people have a will. Few have a legacy plan, and the difference can mean years of delays and a meaningfully smaller inheritance for the people you care about most.

One outdated beneficiary designation can override your entire will. Without proper titling or a trust, an estate can spend 9-18 months in probate. And under the SECURE Act's 10-year rule, most non-spouse heirs of an inherited IRA must empty it within a decade, often forcing large withdrawals at the worst possible tax rates.

For families with more complexity, the margin for error only grows. Coordinating your estate plan with the rest of your financial picture isn't optional at that point, it's the plan.

Many retirees measure success by what their portfolio earns. But for affluent families, the real number that matters is what you actually keep after taxes.

Randy leads with faith, cares deeply about people, and has never believed that financial planning should be only about numbers. His heart has always been to help families live well, worry less, and feel more prepared for what’s ahead.

I’ve always believed that if I’m going to help families navigate one of the most important parts of their financial lives, I have a responsibility to keep learning.

Recently, I had the opportunity to join a small group of advisors in Boston for a meeting hosted by our partners at Annexus. The event brought together industry leaders to discuss a range of topics impacting the future of financial planning, from market trends and innovation to the growing role of artificial intelligence.

One of the highlights was meeting economist Benjamin Shiller and receiving a copy of his new book on AI and economics. It was a great opportunity to hear his perspective on how emerging technologies may influence the economy and the financial services industry in the years ahead.

The biggest takeaway for me wasn’t the event itself. It was the opportunity to bring fresh ideas and new perspectives back to our practice. Every conversation like this helps us think more critically, stay ahead of change, and continue providing thoughtful guidance to the families who trust us.

Learning never stops, and neither does our commitment to serving our clients well.
