CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY FIRE SAFETY

TREE SAFETY:
~Keep freshly cut trees watered.
~Never place your Christmas tree near a fireplace, wood burning stove, or open flame.
~Inspect all strands of Christmas lights.
~Never use more than three sets of light strands per one extension cord.
~Check all extension cords for damage.

GENERAL HOLIDAY FIRE SAFETY:
~Never leave a room when a candle is burning.
~Never burn wrapping paper, garbage, or other trash in your fireplace.
~Check your space heaters before using them, and always keep flammable items away from the heaters.

OUTDOOR DECORATIONS FIRE SAFETY:
~Make sure all outdoor lights are securely fastened.
~Make sure all extension cords are designated for outdoor use. Check the label to see if it can be used outdoors.
~When using outdoor lights and decorations, always make sure to plug them into a ground fault circuit interrupter outlet. The use of a surge protector is also a helpful recommendation.

With cold and snow on the horizon, do you know how to protect yourself from winter weather? No worries; we will share helpful tips on our page to get you prepared. Tomorrow we will be sharing important items to always have in case of an emergency.

KNOW YOUR WEATHER TERMS!

Winter Storm Warning: When hazardous weather in the form of heavy snow, freezing rain, or sleet is imminent or already occurring. These warnings are usually issued 12 to 24 hours before the event is expected to begin.

Winter Storm Watch: The public is alerted to the possibility of a blizzard, heavy snow, freezing rain, or heavy sleep. Watches are issued 12-48 hours before the beginning of the winter storm.

Winter Weather Advisory: This is issued for accumulations of snow, freezing rain, freezing drizzle, and sleet which bring cause for more caution. By being aware of the conditions, you can prevent life-threatening situations pertaining to serious winter weather.

Steve grew up in West Lafayette and attended WLHS. He has a B.S. degree in business administration from Indiana State University. Steve has held his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) for over 36 years and has been a licensed agent for over 40 years. After serving 10 years with Meridian Insurance Company in Indianapolis, Steve has been with Bundy-McNear Insurance Agency, Inc since 1989. He will be happy to assist you with your commercial or personal insurance needs.

Steve’s community involvement includes being a past officer and/or Board Member of: Food Finders Food Bank, Downtown Business Center, WLHS Athletic Booster Club, WLHS Alumni Association, Lafayette Kiwanis Club, Battle Ground Lions Club, and the West Lafayette Redevelopment Commission. He is a graduate of Leadership Lafayette-Class 21. Steve and his wife, Kelly, have two beautiful daughters (and sons-in-law) as well as five wonderful grandchildren.
