Guiding the Course: Meet Jessica Himmer, MCU Board Member

We’re excited to spotlight one of the strategic leaders helping chart the course for MCU.

With a background rooted in entrepreneurship and real‑world financial decision‑making, Jessica brings a member‑focused perspective shaped by education, trust, and meaningful relationships.

đź’ˇ Role: 5th Vice Chair
🌟 Professional Expertise: Realtor, ; 10+ years as an entrepreneur; extensive experience guiding individuals and families through major financial decisions.

Q&A with Jessica:

Q: What aspect of MCU’s mission are you most passionate about?
A: “Helping people feel confident with their finances through education is what matters most to me. When people understand their options, they gain security, choice, and the ability to build a strong future.”

Q: What do you think is the biggest challenge facing credit unions/MCU today?
A: “Staying personal in a world that’s becoming more automated is one of the biggest challenges. Credit unions have to balance new technology and convenience while still protecting what makes them special...real relationships, trust, and community impact.”

Q: What professional achievement are you most proud of?
A: “I loved my first career but becoming an entrepreneur was always the dream. Leaving a salaried management role I enjoyed to build something of my own is the professional leap I’m most proud of. I've completed 10 years as a Realtor and I still can’t imagine a career that fits me better. Helping people navigate some of life’s biggest financial decisions is what keeps this work exciting and meaningful.”

Q: Who or what inspires you professionally?
A: “My parents have always been my greatest inspiration. Growing up in their family business showed me what real hard work looks like and what it means to care deeply about what you’re building. The way they believed in their ideas, trusted themselves, and kept going no matter what is what shaped how I show up in my own career.”

Q: What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
A: "Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it." - Steve Jobs

As we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, we want to take a moment to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of service and the belief that every person deserves dignity and opportunity.

Dr. King reminded us that “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” His words resonate strongly with the work we do each day. As a credit union, our mission is built on people helping people. This means creating pathways to financial well-being, empowering our members, and strengthening the communities we serve. The values Dr. King embodied continue to inspire and guide our mission.
