As families in La Crosse get ready for a new school year, our team at Townsend Insurance wants to help keep everyone safe on the way to and from school. Here are a few reminders for students and parents:

Walking to school?
• Use sidewalks when available
• Cross at crosswalks
• Make eye contact with drivers before crossing
• Walk with a group when you can

Riding a bike?
• Always wear a properly fitted helmet
• Ride with traffic on the right side of the road
• Stop completely before crossing
• Pick routes with lighter traffic

Taking the bus?
• Stand at least 6 feet back from the curb
• Wait for the bus to stop fully before boarding
• Avoid walking directly in front of or behind the bus without the driver’s signal

Getting dropped off?
• Follow school zone speed limits
• Stick to your school’s drop-off procedures
• Never pass a stopped bus

Teen drivers?
• Seatbelts for every passenger
• No phones or devices while driving
• Follow posted speed limits
