As a bail bondsman, I've traveled all over this country. I've met officers from hundreds of different departments. Many of them have gone to great lengths and were instrumental in helping me get done what I needed to get done. I've also had several unpleasant encounters with law enforcement. Everything from refusal to assist to downright antagonism. I've been threatened, lied to, cussed out and on one particular case of misidentification, body slammed on the hood of a police car and taken "downtown". On each and every one of these negative encounters, I never lost my composure. I certainly never threatened an officer and most assuredly never put my hands on one. It had nothing to do with being afraid of them or "boot licking". It had everything to do with the fact that I wanted the encounter to end with everyone going home safe. Me and the officers. If everyone felt that way, most of these encounters that we're seeing on television would never occur.
