High winds could be headed our way in the next few days. Some ideas to help you prep and avoid any losses:
-Secure or bring in any loose outdoor items (patio furntiure, grills, decor, etc)
-Trim trees and remove dead branches
-Move your vehicles into the garage or away from trees
-Charge electronics and stock up on non-perishable foods/ drinking water in preparation for possible power outages

Temperatures in East Tennessee are forecasted to drop very low tonight. Our team at Bailey Insurance Service wanted to remind you again of some tips for preparing your home for the colder weather.

Some basic home maintenance could mean preventing a big loss in the future!

Inside:
-Leave faucets running. Even a light trickle can prevent the pipes from backing up and bursting.
-Open kitchen and bathroom cabinets. This allows warm air to circulate around the plumbing.
-Make your home more energy efficient. By reversing ceiling fans, sealing windows and doors with a fresh coat of exterior caulk, and checking doorways for drafts, you can better insulate your home and reduce utility costs.

Outside:
-Disconnect garden hoses. This will prevent water from freezing in the pipes and avoids potential bursting.
-Cover outdoor faucets. Insulation kits placed over outdoor faucets can protect them from freezing.
-Cut back tree branches. If any branches encroach on your house, have them trimmed back to avoid them falling and potentially damaging your home in an ice or snow storm.
-Clean your gutters. If your gutters are full, water can back up against the house and damage roofing, siding, and wood trim -- plus cause leaks and ice dams.

Colder weather = a change in your tires’ air pressure. 🚗

For the most accurate reading, check your tires after your vehicle has been sitting for a few hours. This is called “cold” pressure, because it’s the pressure reading before your tires (and the air inside them) have a chance to warm up from driving – which raises the PSI reading.
