One of the only positives during the pandemic was when savings were at near-records highs. Those times have subsided and now those savings are gone. That, combined with record credit card debt at unsustainable interest rates means there is real pain out there. Here’s some perspective on interest rates:

From 1971-today, fixed mortgage interest rates have averaged 7.7%. That means that even when we reached the apex of rates back in October, we were still around the average rate for the past 50 years. What we experienced in the 2010’s was extremely rare. We may never see rates that low again in our lifetime.

The good news is that rates have come down, house prices have come down, and it’s a great time to buy or to refinance high-interest debt.
