Inflation has trended lower, supporting the case for the Federal Reserve to keep policy rates steady. While the path back to the Fed's inflation target may not be perfectly smooth, strong earnings, healthy economic growth and resilient consumer spending continue to help support market strength.

The S&P 500 reached new highs as several key market headwinds began to ease. While record levels can make investors hesitant, history suggests that all-time highs have often been followed by continued gains, with long-term returns comparable to, or even better than, investing on a typical trading day.*

The Federal Reserve held rates steady as earnings from four Magnificent 7 companies led to mixed market reactions, suggesting that investors increasingly want evidence that AI spending is translating into durable revenue and earnings growth. While interest rates may remain higher for longer, resilient economic growth, strong corporate earnings and broader participation across sectors continues to support equities.

Brian Therien, Investment Strategist, explains what this means and how this could impact investors in the latest Weekly Market Wrap.

Do you have money? Or does money have you?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Have you ever struggled with the meaning of these verses and the idea of building your financial wealth? If so, you are not alone.

The most important question is not how much do you have, but more importantly, the right question is this: How much are your other types of wealth consumed by your financial wealth?

You have 5 types of wealth: Financial, Social, Time, Physical, and Spiritual.

I personally believe these verses are some of the most misunderstood and misapplied verses. While we are urged not to store up treasures on earth, we are also called to be wise planners, good stewards, and cheerful givers of all of our resources.

It is made abundantly clear that we are to use our talents and resources to multiply what has been given us, to plan for our future, to focus on all types of wealth, not only eternal wealth but also on our earthly accumulation.

These verses are not telling us it is wrong to want more or to desire better; however, it is warning us against making our earthly wealth our only treasure, our main security blanket, and our master. There is but one Master.

Yes, our income and the balance in our 401k/IRA/savings is important, but the balance of our spiritual wealth is eternally more important.

Where do you place your treasure?

Do you have multiple treasures?

"The kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field." Matthew 13:44
