Hurricanes are massive storm systems that form over the water and move toward land. Threats from hurricanes include high winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, coastal and inland flooding, rip currents, and tornadoes. These large storms are called typhoons in the North Pacific Ocean and cyclones in other parts of the world. The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale classifies hurricanes into five categories based on their wind speed, central pressure, and wind damage potential. With wind speeds of 111 miles per hour or more, Category 3, 4, and 5 hurricanes are major according to this scale. Category 1 and 2 hurricanes can also cause damage and injuries. The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30, with the peak season from mid-August to late October. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins May 15 and ends November 30. In advance of these powerful storms, be prepared to evacuate when ordered to do so, strengthen your home’s outer shell, elevate electrical panels and utilities, waterproof your basements, and consider purchasing flood insurance.

Flood insurance misconception: Contrary to what many people think, standard Homeowners policies do not cover damage due to flooding.

Never drive in flooded areas. As little as six inches of water is enough to reach the bottom of most passenger vehicles and cause loss of control. A foot of water will float most vehicles, and two feet of rushing water is powerful enough to carry away sport utility vehicles and pick-up trucks.

Blogging
A blog, short for web log, is a website that is regularly updated with new posts, similar to a diary. Services such as Blogger, WordPress and MSN Spaces have made it easy for private individuals and companies to set up their own blogs.

The Risks
Get started...
Never disclose private information when blogging.
Remember that what goes online stays online.
Your details could be discovered even if you blog under an assumed name, or anonymously. For example, blogs that are stored outside the EU may not be covered by the same data protection or privacy regulations we enjoy in the UK.
You might regret later, something that you blog about. For example, you may lose your job or fail an interview because of embarrassing posts, or upset a friend, relative or loved one.
Blogs are subject to libel law. Posting something that is untrue about an individual or organisation could incur serious penalties.
Remember – what you post online stays online ... anything you post remains in the public domain and accessible indefinitely. Even if you subsequently delete the post, it may have been cached in a search engine or internet archive, or in a company server.
You may think you have a small audience, but blogs are public and it is very easy for people to find information on them via search engines.
The ‘comment’ feature present on many blogs could be exploited by spammers including links to websites they are promoting, cyber-criminals including links to fraudulent websites, or people using abusive or threatening language.
Children unwittingly revealing personal information or posting photographs of themselves.
Safe Blogging
If you want your blog to be public, disclose only what you want everyone on the Internet to know. Otherwise, keep your blog private.
Periodically review who has access to your site and make changes if necessary.
Keep details that identify you only to yourself and trusted people.
Do not post confidential information that might be used to steal your identity such as credit card numbers, passport details or home address.
Consider using an assumed name if you wish to keep your identity secret for personal safety, political reasons or security of employment.
Be careful what information you disclose such as your address, school, place of work or birthday.
Be careful about the photos you post as they may reveal things about you that you would rather keep private.
Be careful about what private feelings you share in your blog.
Be aware of what friends blog about you, or write in comments on your blog, particularly about your personal details and activities.
Be cautious about meeting in person someone you only know through blogging.
Ensure that children are aware of the dangers of blogging to a public audience.
If you are new to blogging, start cautiously. Understand the features of the software you use and how the blogging community (the ‘blogosphere’) works, including how to filter comments.
Do not post anything that may cause you embarrassment at a later date.

Hello Friends,

I am supporting an old friend for Election in the upcoming Special Election to fill the Texas Senate District 4. I was impressed with Mr Galloway in the 1997 when he stood up for Kingwood during the annexation fights, when he was our Texas Senator. And, I was impressed again when Mr Galloway, was the only candidate for Texas Senate District 4 that attended and spoke to our Harris County Republican Convention Delegates, and he was the only candidate that attended the Republican Convention. And, Mr Galloway, told me that he attended the Montgomery, Harris, Chambers and Jefferson County Republican Conventions, and again he was the only candidate running for Texas Senate District 4 to attend those Conventions and meet the Grassroots Volunteers. As someone that has been involved in Politics for over 20 years I feel it is important to meet the people and declare the reason for running for office and listen to the concerns of the Constituents. That is why I am supporting MIKE GALLOWAY, for election to the Texas Senate District 4 that represents our Community. Please see some additional information about MIKE GALLOWAY, below. And, please forward this email to a few friends so they will know about the Best Candidate for Texas Senate District 4 for our Community and to inform them of this very important election that effects us all for the next 4 years.

The Special Election date is May 10 in your Precinct and Early Voting is April 28 through May 6 at the Kingwood Library.

For more than twenty years, I have worked to bring strong, outspoken, conservative leadership to the Texas Senate. In 1994, campaigning for lower taxes and a smaller, more efficient government that would protect our sovereign rights, I became the first Republican elected to represent District 4 in more than a century.

In 1995, I fought the EPA and TNRCC to remove Southeast Texas from the onerous auto emissions testing program and took on the “Status Quo” to reform Lamar University. In 1997, my fight against forced annexation, lead to the greatest reforms since 1963. Standing up to my own party, I defeated an effort to expand the business tax and was a key player in returning a billion dollars in surplus to Texas taxpayers.

Since I left office, the Texas Legislature has passed the largest budgets in Texas history. They have increased taxes on businesses and allowed property taxes to increase at double digit rates because of escalating appraisals. Their inaction on illegal immigration has caused Texans to pay a huge price in health care, education, and law enforcement.

After careful consideration and a lot of prayer, I have decided to enter the race for Texas Senate District 4, in the May 10th Special Election. I have not made this decision in haste nor do I take it lightly. I truly believe that the Good Lord has placed this task before me, and
the political atmosphere is right for someone of my grit and determination to be elected to this seat.

I need your support to get our message out. Please visit my website, ElectGalloway.com, and share the link with your family, friends, and associates. With your support, we will once again have an effective, conservative voice representing Southeast Texas in the State Senate.

Pol. Adv. Paid for by Galloway for Senate, P.O. Box 956, Tomball, TX 77377

It is that time of year again when the weather is getting warmer and flowers are starting to bud.

As you enjoy being outside, remember there are a lot of things that need to be done to your home for both maintenance and safety. Freshhome.com has some great hints on preparing your home, both inside and out, for Spring cleaning like:

•Removing twigs from your gutters
•Cleaning fan blades and air filters to improve the air quality in your home
•And, how Spring cleaning may pay dividends in the long run
My suggestion for Spring cleaning is start with your windows. The sooner you can clean the screens, wipe the glass and let in the sunshine, the sooner you can take advantage of all the sites, smells and sounds of your neighborhood shaking off the cloak of winter because Spring cleaning can be psychological as much as physical.
