The Ulster Savings Bank Charitable Foundation was pleased to present a check to Sunrays Inc. recently. Sunrays Inc. is a non-profit located in Kingston, that connects people with horses through therapeutic approaches, art, and educational programs. They also strive to serve the community through custom programs such as mini summer camps for kids, group activities, and spiritual retreats.
As their 10-year anniversary approaches, we are glad to support their plans for expansion! 🐎🤝

Did you know that the Ritz Theatre in Newburgh saw some of the most recognizable stars of the 1930's and '40's? Happy Hudson Valley !

Not only did this historic theater host performances by Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra; but it was where Lucille Ball made her celebrity debut with her husband, Desi Arnaz!

Throughout local history, this structure grew from manufacturing goods in the 19th century, to becoming Cohen's Opera House in the early 20th. Within the next few decades, its purpose shifted to entertainment. After spending a short span as the State Theater, it was then purchased by Eugene Levy; who renovated it and renamed the theater the Ritz!

Other notable names tied to this location include Vaughn Monroe, Montana Slim, Ricardo Cortez, Les Brown, Peggy Lee, Woody Herman, Dick Powell, and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson.

The Ritz continued operation until the late 1960's when it officially closed. The cause being a decline in attendance, largely due to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge now bypassing the downtown Newburgh area.

Fast forward to this century, when in 2002, the Ritz was purchased by a local non-profit. Today it is home to Safe Harbors of the Hudson, a supportive housing and arts non-profit organization founded by Tricia Haggerty Wenz.
