This is one example of your Farm Bureau Membership at work for Agriculture🧑‍🌾👩‍🌾🚜Roane County Farm Bureau Directors Jeff Russell and Danny Moree attended the Ag on the Hill Legislative Visit 3/18/26 in Nashville. Jeff Russell shares about the visit -

What an experience representing Roane County farmers at the state capital!!

Danny Moree and I had a great time at the capital learning how the committees function and meeting a few of the senators and house representatives.

The morning began at 8am by registering and getting briefed by our Farm Bureau team. Danny and I then made our way to the Cordell Hull Building. Upon entering the building we went through security screening to the main lobby.

Our first meeting wasn’t until 10:30am which gave us time to attend a subcommittee hearing for criminal justice. In that subcommittee meeting we watched several bills advance to full committee vote within a couple hours. It was very interesting to see the interaction between the bill sponsors, guest speakers, and subcommittee members.

At 10:30am, Farm Bureau members had a meeting with Senator Ken Yager which allowed us to discuss upcoming legislation farmers support and explain our reasons for supporting it. We also thanked Senator Yager for supporting the Livestock Health Protection + Disease Management bill which passed in the senate. Additionally, we requested him to support budget funding for the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture for the creation of the UTIA Ag Innovation Center and reinstate funding for the Tennessee Short Line Rail Association which expired in 2025. These are only a couple examples of what were discussed for funding requests.

After lunch Danny and I were able to meet with House Representative Ed Butler. We discussed the legislation farmers support and the impact to the agriculture industry if the legislation does not advance. The Regulatory Freedom Act and Protecting Access to Crop Protection Tools bill are a couple of pieces of legislation farmers need to prosper in Tennessee.

Remember to vote YES on the ballot for State Property Tax Prohibition Constitutional Amendment on November 3, 2026. Taxpayers don’t need an additional state property tax.

Representing Roane County farmers at the capital was a great opportunity to voice the farmers concerns about upcoming legislation. Tennessee Farm Bureau is committed to making Tennessee and Tennessee Farmers successful. Agriculture is the number 1 industry in Tennessee.
