October 16 is World Anaesthesia Day.

On October 16, 1846, at Massachusetts General Hospital, ether was used in the first successful public demonstration of anesthesia. 180 years later, surgery without pain is something patients rarely have to think about, because anesthesiologists do.

Where do general pediatricians earn more?

In May 2025, the national median wage for general pediatricians was $210,040. Among metro areas where at least 300 general pediatricians work, the highest May 2025 medians were in Fresno ($289,290, +$79,250), San Diego ($262,650, +$52,610), Dallas-Fort Worth ($242,160, +$32,120), Phoenix ($233,950, +$23,910) and Philadelphia ($226,440, +$16,400).

Location is one lever among many when you weigh an offer, alongside cost of living, call and the practice itself.
