I was so excited to come into my office today and learn that the Killen Fire Department earned this $10,000 grant through State Farm’s Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program.

We have been applying for this grant for many years, and it really made my day to be a small part of the process to recognize and help such a vital part of our community.

The men and women of the Killen Fire Department give their time, energy and often put themselves in harm’s way to protect the people of our community. They are truly heroes, and I’m incredibly proud that our agency could help play a small role in supporting them.

Congratulations to the Killen Fire Department! You deserve this, and our community is better because of you. 🚒❤️

There are people all over the Shoals doing good work that often goes unnoticed — teachers, coaches, first responders, small-business owners, neighbors, volunteers, coworkers, and plenty of others. Mine is The Shoals United Stars! They give special needs kids in our area an opportunity to compete in various athletic events.

So here’s today’s challenge:
