As a Financial Coach I have taught many Financial Peace University (FPU) classes over the years. Now, as we continue through a COVID economy the Banks are thinking Financial Peace. Caution, Beware, this is not necessarily a good thing. Below is an interesting article advising Banks to start offering products and programs to promote Financial Peace. The article states that 54% of Americans fully trust their bank. Unfortunantly banks are looking to replace revenue. They may not have your best interest in mind. They are great marketers, but they are looking for new ways to profit off of your money. Banks will leverage your trust and push products and services that may not help you achieve Financial Peace. A Father's perspective on student loan debt. CBS did a series last week on the College Debt Crisis in america. Student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt in our country and the combination of these two crisis are crippling our country.

I did like much of what they had to say but there were a few things I would challenge. The reporter ask "is college debt, good debt". The expert's answer was it depends. My answer is there is NO good debt for our children. Why would we want to tie a millstone around their neck and send the swimming in the real world. So I urge parents to begin talking to each other about how much you will spend on college for your kids and how much they will spend.

The number one factor that determines how much debt they may or may not take on is where they go to school. Choosing the school that you can afford is the most important decision. The key factors to scholarships are GPA, Class Rank, SAT/ACT Score and interview/essay writing skills. So when you student is a Freshman you must begin talking about college. Visit colleges as early as sophmore year. IF your child "must" take on Student Loan Debt, then help them develop a plan/budget to have the entire debt paid off within 2-4 years.
