‼️ With the heavy rain in our area, here are a few important steps you can take if you experience water in your basement — or to help prevent it:
Before or During Heavy Rain:
1. Check sump pumps – Make sure your sump pump is working and the discharge line is clear.
2. Elevate valuables – Move furniture, electronics, and important documents off the floor in basement areas.
3. Seal cracks – Inspect basement walls and windows for gaps or cracks and seal them where possible.
4. Clear drains & gutters – Keep gutters, downspouts, and nearby storm drains clear to direct water away from your foundation.
If Your Basement Floods:
1. Stay safe – Avoid entering standing water if electrical systems may be affected. Turn off power if safe to do so.
2. Document damage – Take photos or videos before moving or cleaning items.
3. Remove water quickly – Use pumps, wet/dry vacuums, or call a water mitigation company immediately.
4. Prevent mold growth – Dry out the area within 24–48 hours with fans and dehumidifiers.
5. Contact your insurance agent – Notify us as soon as possible so we can help review your coverage and guide you through the claims process.
