Winter storms can be tough on homes, especially when snow and ice linger. With snow in the forecast, here are a few things homeowners can keep an eye on before and after the storm to help prevent roof damage and leaks.
π§ Before the Snowstorm
- Make sure gutters and downspouts are clear so melting snow can drain properly.
- Check that attic access areas are sealed and insulated.
- Safely remove small amounts of snow from walkways and roof edges if accessible.
- Avoid climbing onto the roof β safety always comes first.
βοΈ After the Snowstorm
- Watch for ice buildup along roof edges or in gutters.
- Look for snow piling up unevenly or blocking roof drains.
- Check ceilings and walls for water stains or damp spots.
- Pay attention to new drafts, dripping, or unusual noises
- These can all be early warning signs of ice dams, roof stress, or hidden damage.
