Rainy weather slowed things down last week, but there was still plenty of progress at our homes and in the warehouse!

At House #104, Cazbi’s kitchen and bathroom backsplashes were completed, and volunteers added finishing touches like towel bars, a mirror, cabinet hardware, and vent covers. With appliances delivered, the crew also installed the refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. Outside of build hours, Cazbi and her daughter have been busy refinishing a table and chairs in the warehouse—a big project they're working hard to bring to life!

At House #105, Zach and Keith finished up drywall work, bringing Jessica’s home closer to interior painting. Jessica, Nery, and Danilo also painted doors at the warehouse.

Meanwhile, volunteers built the walls for Nery’s garden shed while Nery helped paint doors upstairs.

At Cazbi’s house ( #104), the kitchen and bathroom backsplash went in, adding another detail that makes the house feel like home. Jessica also got to add more personal touches to her house ( #105) by helping paint the first coat on her garden shed. Her driveway was poured, and work began on the soffits.
Meanwhile, house #106 is starting to look more like a home from the outside. Nery and her crew worked on painting trim at the warehouse while volunteers wrapped her house in Tyvek and began installing the windows.

A lot of progress was made across our Habitat homes after the Labor Day weekend, with volunteers tackling projects both inside and out.

At House #104, Cazbi’s beautiful black countertops were installed, and the lawn was graded and prepared for sod and seed.

At House #105, Jessica’s siding was completed, and painters put on the first coat of deep teal blue. Volunteers added Tyvek sheeting and a door to the garden shed. Inside, volunteers helped with cleanup while members of the UNK Men’s Basketball team helped install netting so insulation can be blown into the walls. Others also began hanging drywall on the interior walls and ceiling.

At House #106, volunteers installed the tub surround before the interior walls went up. The building committee and volunteers worked together to put up the rafters in record time—finishing by coffee break! They then continued sheeting the roof while others below secured the frame to the foundation with hurricane clips.

Thank you to the members of UNK Men’s Basketball team for spending time at the site and helping move things along!

There’s always something happening at our Habitat homes, and this month has been no exception with plenty of work getting done both on and off the job sites.

At Heather’s house (House #103), volunteers prepared the side yard for sod and the backyard for seed. She’ll soon have a beautiful yard to enjoy, along with a new tree in her front yard.

At House #104, Holly from Prizm Electric installed ceiling fans, while Steve measured for countertops and installed baseboards on the kitchen cupboards. Volunteers also prepared the front lawn for sod on Saturday.

Weekday volunteers worked on the safe room at House #105 while others continued siding the house and building Jessica’s shed. Andrew and Elijah put the finishing touch on the shed by shingling it Saturday.

At House #106, volunteers packed Nery’s foundation before Dandee Concrete Construction poured and finished the concrete floor on Friday. Then, on Saturday, after being delivered from the warehouse, the walls were raised into place!

The site also saw plenty of activity as Jerry and Pat added much-needed dirt, with Pat operating the large loader provided by Ed Broadfoot Company. Mowers kept the Marlatt property clean and looking its best throughout the week.

The week of August 15th, volunteers continued work on all three homes. HVAC runs were installed in Nery’s foundation and door and window locations were marked. Jessica’s house also got a start on siding, while Steve installed backer boards inside.

On Saturday, volunteers finished the flooring, started installing doors from the warehouse, and added more lighting and fans at Cazbi's house. Outside, the crew cleared weeds around the foundation and cleaned out the garden shed. At the warehouse, Cazbi and friends painted her closet doors while other volunteers built walls for Nery’s house.

At Jessica’s house, the rain made it impossible to continue siding, so volunteers focused on cleanup and working through the puddles and standing water around the site.

We were also grateful to have volunteers from First Lutheran Church join us on Saturday. Despite the muddy conditions, they jumped in and helped wherever they were needed.
