This is an eye opening article! Most people study enough to know the basics but then still like having free help, handling the details. I love to help people with the process!

Insurance agency eHealth conducted a survey of 1,000 Americans and found that 89% of beneficiaries feel "confident" that they understand their Medicare benefits and coverage options. However, just 13% could identify each of the main facets of Medicare, such as the traditional program, Medicare Advantage, Part D and Medicare supplement plans.

In addition, most (88%) said they did not know there is no annual cap on out-of-pocket spending in traditional Medicare, while 82% of those nearing Medicare eligibility said they were not aware that there is a 20% coinsurance for medical services.

Close to half (42%) of beneficiaries were unaware or underestimated that 20% coinsurance, according to the report.

This group was also largely unaware of the potential enrollment deadlines associated with Medicare. For example, 88% did not know that there is a 10% penalty that could be added to their Part B premiums for each 12-month window where they were eligible but did not enroll.

Plus, 80% also said they did not realize they could incur a penalty for delayed Part D enrollment, and 71% said they did not know there was a similar penalty for delayed enrollment in Medicare supplement plans.

While many individuals believe they have a firm grasp on their Medicare benefits, the reality is far different, according to a new survey. | While many individuals believe they have a firm grasp on their Medicare benefits, the reality is far different, according to a new survey.

People like to exaggerate on their headlines, as you can see in my screenshots:

Here's what's actually happening.

In 2024, the Biden administration created a temporary program called the Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration. It paid insurers billions of dollars to keep standalone Part D premiums from spiking while the industry adjusted to the Inflation Reduction Act's redesign of the benefit, including a new $2,000 annual out-of-pocket cap. It was VOLUNTARY. It was TEMPORARY. It was NEVER meant to be permanent, and CMS said so from the start.

CMS announced that demonstration is ending after the 2026 plan year, about a year earlier than expected. That means some standalone Part D premiums may go up in 2027 more than expected. While CMS itself estimates the increase for most people will be under $10 a month, some plans could see more. (I expect some plans will still be

Medicare won’t call you unless you contact Medicare first.
Phone scammers try to pose as Medicare to steal your personal information, like your Medicare Number, birthdate, or Social Security Number.

If you’re not sure about a caller, hang up. Better yet, do not answer any phone numbers that you don't have saved to your phone. If it's someone important, they will leave you a voicemail!

Call Isaac at 308-455-6270 for free, local help!
