Now is the time to join forces to continue to showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of these celebrations of water. The City of Fountains Foundation is a 501 c3 dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Kansas City-area historic fountains and sculptures. In 2015 the Foundation completed the Wish Upon A Fountain Campaign to raise awareness and funds to restore 8 fountains with significant re

storation needs working with Kansas City Parks & Recreation Department. The City of Fountains Foundation was established in 1973 by Hallmark executive Harold Rice and his wife, Peggy. The foundation was organized as a not-for-profit corporation with a goal of raising funds to construct new fountains, manage trust funds to cover maintenance costs, and increase awareness of the importance of Kansas City’s fountains highlighted on www.kcfountains.org.

Fountain Day 2026 marked the return of flowing water across Kansas City, bringing the community together to celebrate the start of fountain season.

With temperatures in the 70s, a cloud-filled sky, and a steady breeze, the weather held off just long enough for the event to unfold. Music, a live painting, and the presence of international flags reflected both local tradition and Kansas City’s connection to the upcoming World Cup.

City leaders, KC Parks and Recreation, and the City of Fountains Foundation spoke before the annual countdown. As the fountain turned on, the band played “I’m Going to Kansas City,” marking the official start of the season.

Set into the stone wall of a service building in Loose Park, the Wall Fountains reflect a unique chapter in Kansas City’s public art history.

Created in 1941 through a Works Progress Administration competition, artist Jeanette Klein’s kneeling figures quietly release water into basins below.

Often called “Adam and Eve,” the sculptures were never officially named, leaving their meaning open to interpretation.

If you’re attending Fountain Day at Loose Park, don’t miss this often overlooked fountain.
