Most of us don't like to think about needing help as we get older. We value our independence and hope to stay healthy for as long as possible.

But the reality is that nearly 70% of adults age 65 and older will need some form of long-term care at some point in their lives.

Long-term care isn't just about skilled nursing homes. It may mean help at home after an illness, assistance with daily activities, or support that allows you to maintain your quality of life.

Planning ahead isn't about expecting the worst; it's about giving yourself and your loved ones more choices, more control, and greater peace of mind.

I was honored to be invited to attend the Senior Market Sales (SMS) Sales Force Conference in Omaha this week.

For three days, I was immersed in conversations focused on Medicare, financial wellness, and the evolving needs of seniors. I had the opportunity to hear industry leaders discuss the current state of Medicare, emerging trends, and how innovations such as AI may shape the future of healthcare and client service.

What impressed me most is that every presenter, no matter what arm of Health and Wealth they represented, was actively engaged in advocacy. Not only for the brokers they support, but for Medicare beneficiaries across the country. As our industry continues to evolve, strong advocacy and education are more important than ever.

I left the conference with new insights and renewed inspiration. My goal has always been to provide my clients with a holistic approach to their health and financial well-being as they age, and this experience reinforced that commitment.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and continue bringing valuable resources and guidance to the people I serve.

Drug costs continue to rise, and with several changes in the past few years, there are some prescriptions that have moved to different tiers on Part D plans. Take a look at this article and see if you may qualify.

Food for Thought ~

A few years ago, at a Medicare conference, a company gave a presentation about AI call centers that could enroll someone into a drug plan without a human ever being involved. At the time, it felt futuristic. Now it's very real.
And while I understand the appeal of efficiency, I keep coming back to the bigger picture that many may not be seeing:
What happens when we remove human connection from systems serving an aging population?
Many of my Medicare clients aren’t just looking for information. They’re looking for trust. They want someone who knows their doctors, understands their medications, remembers their fears, and can help them navigate complicated decisions with compassion and patience.
AI can process data.
But it cannot replace genuine human care and relationships.

I also find myself thinking about the bigger economic picture. Medicare and Social Security are already under strain, with the number of people relying on Medicare growing faster than the workforce supporting it.
As more jobs become automated, it raises important questions about sustainability and how these systems will continue to be supported long-term.
AI does not pay Social Security and Medicare Taxes.

This isn’t anti-technology. AI will absolutely have an important place in the future.
I just hope we continue asking thoughtful questions about what we may be gaining in efficiency and what we may be losing in humanity.
