I am not much for Facebook posting but I thought this worthy!
I recently had a physical for the Fire Department and they found a mass on my Thyroid. I'll be honest, it scared the crap out of me. I ran the movie and it wasn't good. The first thing I was worried about was my family and money. What will I do with work? What will the medical bills look like? What if I die? All the stuff.
I went to KU med and had a biopsy done, waited for the results, and saw the doctor. I lucked out, it's benign. Just have to monitor it for a few years.
As some of you know I also have a life insurance business that I run with my wife Andrea Babb Smith. I have a lot of life coverage, but the one thing I drug my feet on was a cancer plan. Today I invested in one. Now, I have had plans in the past from the groups that come by the station and sell us stuff, the Aflacs and PFIA and whatnot. I am not against those plans, but I have always been disappointed by all the info. If this then this, but if this you get this.
I took out a Critical Illness policy with Mutual of Omaha today. If I get diagnosed with cancer, heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, need an organ transplant, go blind, deaf, have paralysis, or kidney failure I will get a check for $50k. If I have to have any heart surgery I will get 25% of that amount if I don't have a heart attack.
I at least know some money will be their if the next time the outcome is not so good and I potentially can't work. I don't every want to worry about money at that point.
These policies can be very affordable. I am 41 and this is going to cost me less than $100/month and I get to keep if for life...it never expires. If I would have done this in my 20's when I got on the fire department it would only cost me 25-35/month based on what coverage I wanted.
My point is, don't wait to plan. Plan now for what might happen so you have a plan when it happens. I am grateful I still qualify for this plan. If you want to talk about this don't hesitate to reach out to me or my wife and we will get you the info. It literally took me 10 minutes to do the application and be approved.
God bless!
