As I read, listen and view the ever increasing and alarming news, my thoughts were drawn to this passage sent to fellow believers in Messiah found in Galatians chapter 5 which speaks to me about the extent of my freedom. We all want freedom right? Freedom of speech. Freedom to act. Freedom,freedom, freedom. And don't let anyone tell me what I can and cannot believe or do, right? 13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

I've been deeply troubled by the focus of many of our nations leaders as they battle one another for supremacy in each of their races. I can barely tolerate listening to their messages.

This morning as I was looking out of my kitchen window waiting for our birds and meditating a bit, some passages came to mind.

I hope they "resonate" with your spirit as well.

Where has my 2023 flown to? I've been thinking about this year and imagined it were made up of "seeds" and made me wonder what has become of all of my "seeds". That reminded me of Matthew ch13: "1. That day Jesus left the house and sat down by the sea side.

2 Many people came to where he was. So he got into a boat and sat down. All the people stood on the land by the water.

3 He taught the people many things by telling them stories. He said, `Listen, a man went out to sow some seed.

4 As he sowed it, some of the seed fell on the road. Birds came and ate the seed.

5 Some seed fell on the stony ground. Not much earth covered the stones. The seed started to grow right away because it was not deep in the ground.

6 When the sun began to shine, it was too hot for the new plants. They died because they had no roots.

7 Some seed fell among the weeds. The weeds grew up and made the new plants die.

8 But some seed fell on good ground. The seed grew and the plants gave more seed. Some plants gave thirty seeds. Some gave sixty. And some gave a hundred.

9 Everyone who has ears, listen!"

Help me Father to start 2024 by looking at what I sowed in 2023 and to harvest what that seed produced. Help me God by listening to you so that the seed I sow this year, produce thirty, sixty and even 100 plants!

For some of you, the experience of becoming an "empty nester" was a deeply emotional experience. Helping your kiddo Complete the paperwork (for us there actually was paperwork) applications like the FAFSA, writing the college essay were a bit emotional as they signaled the coming of a new season. However the "real deal" of the impending empty nest experience really hit home as we were packing for the 4 hour trip to the college and helping set up their dorm room. Meeting their new roommate and touring the campus features (especially the amazing cafeteria which would now replace mom's home cooked meals). That moment when we pulled out of the dorm parking lot was truly emotional (well at least it was for us parents). We experience this twice (one for each child). It's now more than two decades later and I still feel that emotion of having my child grow up and out. Without realizing it, our first grandchild grew up into a gifted, handsome, focused young man. I remember taking this little kids, now 18 out to eat and sitting quietly in his high chair and chowing down adult meals because the children's portion went too quickly and he would then ask to eat from our plate. All of the special events and experiences in his life flew by and now we watch from a distance as his parents live the same experiences and feelings as we did. There are the other younger sibs who we watch and "cling to" as much as we dare. There are band and cheer and theater events we still get to relish. More later but I encourage everyone who reads this to cherish every single milestone of your newborn beginning to crawl, sit up, speak, laugh, go to pre-school and first day of kindergarten. Blink and it will be high school graduation and beyond. Cherish them. Cherish every single moment even when they cry and of course then you cry. We long to see all of the grand kids experience all that God has planned for them. I wish you all the same experiences that you make the time to enjoy for they will only happen once. Love

I've been reviewing tasks I haven't completed yet (by the end of summer).
Some of these fall in the category of "Spring Cleaning" and require opening up the house and cleaning windows, deep cleaning room by room . Getting the garage cleaned out and organized.
These and other tasks are on my erasable kitchen calendar on my smart phone calendars.
Seeing these in "written" form helps keep my on track and it's actually rewarding as I "check off" each one as I complete it.

Thinking about these things brings up a question.
When it comes to your own personal and family finances, do you have some type of Financial Calendar or GPS to help you set and reach your goals and give you a great feeling of accomplishment as you complete each goal?

Honestly, I have missed them more times than I've achieved them, but I've discovered that helping others with their motivation somehow helps me a lot!
