๐Ÿšœ Dyed Diesel Update for Illinois Farmers

As harvest continues, we want to make sure farmers have the latest information regarding the temporary use of dyed diesel in Illinois.

๐Ÿ“Œ As of October 7: Federal and Illinois fuel taxes have been deferred, not eliminated. This means the taxes could potentially be owed at a later date. Permanently waiving these taxes would require additional action from Congress and the Illinois General Assembly.

๐Ÿงพ Keep your records: Until official recordkeeping guidance is released, farmers are encouraged to save fuel receipts and keep detailed records, including the amount purchased, purchase date, vehicle or equipment used, and agricultural purpose.

โš ๏ธ A reminder: Penalties remain in place for the unlawful use of dyed diesel in licensed motor vehicles.

Weโ€™ll continue to share updates as more guidance becomes available. Stay informed and stay safe this harvest season!

A huge THANK YOU to our local grain elevators for everything they do to support our farmers and agriculture in Kankakee County!

Because during harvest, sometimes a little goody bag goes a long way. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐ŸŒพ

๐Ÿšœโœˆ๏ธ Ag Industry Tour 2026! ๐ŸŒฑ

The Kankakee County Farm Bureau Young Leaders were excited to once again host our annual Ag Industry Tour for students from our local FFA chapters!

This year, we had the opportunity to take our high school FFA students on a behind-the-scenes look at two important parts of agriculture.

โœˆ๏ธ Pontiac Flying Service โ€” Students learned about the crop-dusting industry, the role aerial application plays in modern agriculture, and got an up-close look at the aircraft and equipment used to help farmers protect their crops.

๐Ÿ„ Kilgus Farm โ€” Students got to experience the ins and outs of running a dairy farm and learn more about everything that goes into caring for cattle and producing milk each day.

We are so proud to be able to provide opportunities like this for our local FFA students and help connect them with the many different careers and industries that make up agriculture.

A huge thank you to Pontiac Flying Service and Kilgus Farm for opening their doors and sharing their knowledge with our students! And thank you to all of the FFA students and advisors who joined us for a great day of learning. ๐ŸŒพ

Kankakee County Farm Bureau and its Young Leaders are proud to invest in the next generation of agriculture! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Twenty-five years later, we honor the lives lost, the families changed forever, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders on September 11, 2001. We pause today to remember, to reflect, and to renew our promise to never forget.

๐ŸŒพAg Around Kankakee County๐ŸŒพ

This summer, we have been traveling around Kankakee County to meet local farmers and agricultural businesses. Through this series, we will share their stories and highlight the important contributions they make to the agricultural community.

On August 1st, Sherry our Ag in the Classroom Coordinator met with David Kurtz, the owner of Benoit Aerial Spraying in Kankakee. They talked about the history of Benoit Aerial Spraying, how technology has changed his field, and how his work helps the local farmer produce a healthy crop.

๐ŸšจTAKE ACTION: Protect American Beef Production ๐Ÿšจ

(ACTION REQUEST LINK IN COMMENTS)

Illinois Farm Bureau and Illinois Beef Association are asking you to urge Congress and the White House to protect American beef production.

An additional 660 million pounds of foreign beef is set to enter the U.S. over just 90 days at prices 25% below market value, undercutting producers.

Now is not the time. Farmers need long-term market stability, allowing producers to rebuild the U.S. cattle herd, increase American beef production and ensure consumers have access to a safe, abundant and affordable food supply.
