The other day I sat down with a wonderful couple. She has been battling stage 4 cancer and was forced into medical early retirement. She had filled out a request because she was concerned about what would happen to her retirement benefits.
After sitting down together and making a few phone calls, we reviewed her benefits and discovered something they had no idea existed. She had nearly $150,000 of life insurance through work and qualified for a terminal illness rider that allowed her to access 75% of her death benefit while she is still living.
That one discovery completely changed their situation.
They had been struggling with medical bills because her insurance was not covering everything she needed. Now they have the financial breathing room to catch up on those bills and focus on what really matters. Spending time together and fighting this disease instead of constantly worrying about money.
Not every appointment is about selling life insurance. Sometimes it is simply about sitting down, reviewing what someone already has, asking the right questions, and helping a family find benefits they never knew were available.
Moments like this are why I love what I do.
