"These models are game-changing, but they are not life-changing."

That line from Sanjana Chintalapudi names something a lot of people are feeling right now. Everywhere you look, there is a message that if you are not all-in on AI, you are being left behind.

Here is why it matters for your money: the same pressure that makes you feel behind on technology is the pressure that pushes people into emotional financial decisions. The crypto everyone swears by. The day-trading FOMO. Uploading a tax return into a chatbot because it feels faster.

On the latest episode of The Wealth Development Studio, Pelican Financial Planning's Genevieve George and Sanjana explore a healthier way to think about it. These are tools, not water and food. They are not the things we need to survive. And a tool is something you get to use on your own terms, when it actually serves you.

That is what real financial clarity looks like. Not keeping up with every shiny thing, but knowing what is worth your attention and what is just noise.

The best financial advice isn't about more data. It's about more trust.

For years, the industry treated every client the same: a spreadsheet, a return rate, and a handshake. In this episode of The Wealth Development Studio Podcast, Genevieve George sits down with Melissa Montalvo, Senior Wealth Advisor at Atticus Wealth Management, who breaks that mold by meeting clients where they are, sometimes in their own homes.

They cover:

→ Why women want reassurance and clarity from an advisor, not jargon
→ How donor-advised funds let clients give appreciated stock and avoid capital gains tax
→ Why giving every dollar a purpose keeps families aligned through every season of life

That is the heart of planning by the decades. It is not a single meeting but a relationship that grows with a family through every transition, from career changes to retirement to loss.

Give it a listen, and follow along this month as Pelican plans by the decades.

Meet Pelican Financial Planning's founder, Genevieve George, CPA, CFP®, back in her high school days.

We're sharing these throwbacks for a reason. This month, Pelican is focused on planning by the decades, and there's no better place to start than the beginning.

Here's what Genevieve would tell the young woman in these photos: a financial plan isn't reserved for the day you finally "have money." It grows up alongside you, decade by decade.

Your 20s are for starting. Your 30s are for protecting. Your 40s are for getting intentional. And every decade after asks something a little different of you.

Same person. Different priorities as the years go on.

Wherever you are, know this: you are not behind. You are right on time to make the next decade more intentional than the last.

Follow along this month as we plan by the decades.

Are you paying yourself with intention, or just moving money around when the business allows?

Before becoming a business owner, saving for retirement may have been pretty straightforward. A paycheck came in, retirement contributions happened automatically, and you didn’t have to think much about it.

But when you work for yourself, that automatic system disappears. Suddenly, you’re responsible for deciding how much to pay yourself, how much to set aside for taxes, what stays in the business, what gets reinvested, and whether retirement savings are still happening consistently.

It’s easy for retirement savings to fall to the bottom of the list because there is always something else the business needs. And yes, your business may become a valuable asset one day. It may even help fund retirement or another major goal.

But I wouldn’t want your entire future riding on the assumption that the business will sell exactly when you want it to, for the amount you hope it will.

There are retirement plan options available for business owners, including IRAs, SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, Solo 401(k)s, and more advanced employer plan strategies depending on your situation. The right fit depends on your income, business structure, cash flow, tax picture, and long-term goals. Take a look at our page, and check out the video series we did, one for each of these kinds of accounts.

The point isn’t to do what everyone else is doing. The point is to create a thoughtful system that supports the life you’re building now and the future you want later.

If you own a business, when was the last time you looked at how you’re paying yourself and whether retirement savings are still part of the plan?

Save this one for your next money check-in.

Your business has a plan.
But do you?

So many business owners are incredibly intentional about growth, payroll, taxes, client service, and daily operations…

But their personal financial picture?
That often gets pushed to “later" or comingled with their personal finances.

And we get it. When you’re the one keeping everything moving, your own future can quietly become the blind spot.

A full-picture plan looks beyond the business itself:

→ What are you building toward personally?
→ Is your cash flow supporting your long-term goals?
→ Are your tax strategies aligned across business and personal income?
→ Do you have protection in place if life changes?
→ Is there a plan for what comes next?

Because building a successful business is important.
Building a life that supports you beyond the business matters, too.

And yes, that includes retirement planning.

Business owners have unique retirement planning opportunities, and choosing the right account can make a meaningful difference over time.

There's a moment in a first meeting when a new client says, "No one has ever asked me that before."

At Pelican Financial Planning, that's a favorite thing to hear. It means the conversation has gotten beneath the surface, into the details that actually shape a financial plan.

A few truths keep proving themselves in this work:

Every client is unique, even when the numbers look alike. Two people the same age with the same savings often want completely different lives. Financial planning isn't a formula, it's a relationship built on trust.

Money decisions are rarely only about money. The most meaningful conversations touch on family, history, fear, and hope. The "why" behind a goal usually matters more than the number attached to it.

That's why Pelican leads with education, so every person walks away able to make one more informed decision, client or not.

Follow Pelican Financial for clear, practical guidance on planning your future with confidence. Woman-led, tax-smart, and here to translate complexity into clarity.

Does every money conversation in your house end in a fight?

Or maybe you leave a financial meeting feeling good… then go home and do absolutely nothing.

Here’s a gentle reframe:

The problem might not be your finances.
It might be your relationship with them.

In this episode of The Wealth Development Studio Podcast, Genevieve sits down with Wasserman, founder of Your Financial Therapist, to talk about the emotional side of money.

Because money is never just math.

It’s the childhood stories we absorbed.
The shame we carry from past mistakes.
The arguments we keep repeating.
The avoidance that feels easier than opening the statement.

Erika shares that 90% of financial decisions are emotional and 10% are logical, which explains why even smart, successful people can feel stuck when it comes to taking action.

Financial therapy helps you understand the “why” behind your money patterns so you can start making decisions with more awareness, confidence, and compassion.

A reminder worth saving:

Every single person has made a financial mistake.
You are not behind.
You are not broken.
You are allowed to let the shame go and take one next step.

What money story did you grow up hearing that still shows up today?

Be sure to check out the full episode to learn more about the emotional side of money, and how you can overcome any struggle you may have with it.
