Hello Everyone,
We don’t normally share stories like this, but we felt like this was a special case. One of our Family Heritage Sales Professionals, Tim Gottschalk, rescued a baby from a burning vehicle this past Saturday. Here’s his story:
Tim was driving from Kansas to Texas when he came upon a minivan on fire in the median of I-35. Other cars had already stopped, and a mom and her two young children were sitting on the side of the road. They had just escaped the flaming vehicle. Then, Tim noticed something others had missed. He saw a baby’s arm waving in the window. He threw his car in park, jumped out, and dashed to the flaming minivan. By this time, grass surrounding the vehicle was also ablaze. Opening the door, he smashed through a protective gate to reach the baby, pluck him from his car seat, and whisk him to safety. Thirty seconds later, the minivan was fully engulfed in flames.
We’re very proud of Tim, and thankful he and the family escaped the incident unharmed. We often think of purchasing our life and supplemental health insurance products as selfless and loving acts, since our insureds are often paying to pass a benefit to a loved one. Tim’s story is also an example of selflessness and love for humanity.
However, there’s more to the story. As details emerged, we learned the family in the minivan has been homeless for the last six months. Everything they own was destroyed in the fire. If you feel prompted to help this family, a GoFundMe account (https://www.gofundme.com/2m2xtek) and a Walmart Wish List (www.walmart.com/lists/view-wish-list-items?id=9061553d-9644-4c47-bffb-1ca91e048cae) has been established to provide assistance to them during this difficult time. I have personally verified the validity of the GoFundMe account.
