The Bandera County Farm Bureau held its annual membership convention Sept. 19, reviewing the past year and plans ahead. Members enjoyed dinner, music and door prizes while longtime members Tina Valdez, 93, and Buddy Sandidge, 87, were recognized.

Pay attention!

Texas farmers and ranchers can temporarily use dyed diesel on public roads following a statewide disaster declaration by Gov. Greg Abbott.

The declaration also allows fuel, agricultural and timber loads to operate at a gross weight of up to 95,000 pounds.

Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening said the changes will help reduce costs as farmers and ranchers face high fuel prices and other production expenses.

Meet Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) and Affiliated Companies’ next Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer: Dr. Whit Weems.

After a decade with TFB, Weems will step into the role in December, bringing a wealth of experience to TFB and associated industries and a strong understanding of Texas agriculture.

Weems will assume the duties of the executive director/COO position on Dec. 6. Current TFB and Affiliated Companies Executive Director/COO Si Cook officially retires in January 2027.

From the school garden to the farm—let us help your students make the connection to agriculture through our Learning From the Ground Up Garden Grant program!

We’re offering $500 grants to help schools establish or improve gardens or greenhouses. Aquaponic and hydroponic systems are eligible if they are used to teach students about food production.

They call us "farmers' wives" like it's a soft title.

Like we just stand in the background.

But there's nothing soft about it.

We are the early mornings before the sun comes up and the last light on at night. We're raising kids in between chores, wiping tears with one hand and getting supper on the table with the other.

We keep the house running when the days don't slow down.

The meals, the laundry, the schedules-done whether we're tired or not. We handle the bills, the paperwork, the phone calls... the invisible load that keeps everything from falling apart.

We're the ones loading kids in the truck, running across the state for parts because something broke-again. We adjust, we figure it out, we keep it moving.

We are the backup plan.
The problem solver.

The steady place when everything else feels uncertain.

It's not easy.

There are days it feels like too much.
But we don't quit.

Because this life, these kids, our Husbands, this farm... they're worth every ounce of us.

So no, we're not "just" farmers' wives.

We are the backbone you don't always see.
And we carry more than most will ever understand. 🌾

High school students who are members of Texas FFA or Texas 4-H can grow their ag advocacy skills and take home prizes through the Speak Out For Agriculture (SOFA) Challenge.

The contest will be held Oct. 3-4 at the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo.

Registration closes Aug. 31.
