Most people aren’t thinking about their insurance on an average Tuesday.

And honestly, I get it.

But all it takes is one moment… a hailstorm that totals your car, a roof claim, something unexpected… and suddenly what you have (or don’t have) really matters.

One of the biggest surprises I see isn’t the claim itself. It’s the deductible.
Percentage roof deductibles can mean thousands out of pocket, and auto deductibles don’t always match what people could comfortably handle either.

It’s worth knowing before you need it.

If you’re not 100% sure what your coverages and deductibles look like, I’m happy to walk through it with you. No pressure, just clarity.

⚾ Baseball-Sized Hail in Springfield Today

These photos are from today. This is the kind of storm that turns a normal afternoon into thousands of dollars in damage in minutes.

Here are two questions every homeowner should know the answer to:

🏠 Is your roof deductible a percent deductible?
If so, what do you insure your home for?
Many people are shocked to learn their deductible could be $5,000, $10,000, or more when it’s time to replace a roof.

🚗 What about your auto coverage?
Hail claims can total vehicles quickly. Do you carry comprehensive coverage, and do you know your deductible amount?

You don’t want to figure this out after the storm hits.

If you are not sure what your deductibles are or how your policies respond to hail damage, that’s a conversation worth having before the next storm rolls through.

Most homeowners don’t realize this, but your deductible matters more than you think.

Many companies are moving away from flat deductibles and using percentage based deductibles for wind and hail.

That means instead of paying $1000, you could be responsible for 1 percent or 2 percent of your home’s value.

On a $300,000 home, that’s $3,000 to $6,000 out of pocket.

We currently still offer the option for a $1000 flat deductible, which is becoming harder to find.

That difference can matter when something actually happens.

If you’re not sure how your deductible works, it’s worth taking a look.

Most people insure:
✔️ Their car
✔️ Their home
✔️ Their stuff

But avoid the one thing that protects their family’s future…

Life insurance.

Not because it’s not important—
but because it’s uncomfortable to think about.

Here’s the truth:
It’s not about you.

It’s about making sure your family is okay no matter what.

That’s a conversation I have every day—and one that actually matters.

No pressure. Just making sure you’re covered the right way.

Why It Matters Wednesday

🏠 Quick question…

If your home was damaged tomorrow, could you list everything you own?

Most people can’t.

Clothes, electronics, furniture, tools, kitchen items… it adds up fast. Creating a simple home inventory can make the claims process much smoother if you ever have a loss.

📱 Quick tip:
Take 10–15 minutes and walk through your home recording a video of each room. Open closets, drawers, and cabinets.

You’ll be glad you did if you ever need it.

If you’d ever like help reviewing your coverage and making sure everything is properly protected, I’m always happy to help.

🌪️ Storm Season Is Coming

Around here, spring doesn’t just mean warmer weather. It also means wind and hail are on the way.

It’s a good time to take a quick look at your homeowners policy and ask:

• Do I know my wind and hail deductible?
• Is it a flat amount or a percentage?
• If it’s 2% on a $350,000 home, am I prepared for a $7,000 deductible?

That’s $7,000 before insurance starts to pay.

Over the past few years, many carriers have shifted to percentage deductibles at renewal. A lot of homeowners don’t realize it until they need to file a claim.

A quick review now can prevent surprises later.

If you’d like me to take a look at your coverage, I’m happy to help.
