The banking industry is building something new, and Iowa banks are helping shape it.

Through the BankChain Alliance, state banking associations across the country are building an industry-owned, bank-governed network designed to support innovation while strengthening community and regional banking. Because it’s governed by the industry itself, banks of every size have a seat at the table as the next generation of financial infrastructure takes shape.

This week’s IBA Member Spotlight highlights DJ Wingert with Northwest Bank!

DJ Wingert believes having a sense of curiosity helps her better serve her clients and community in her role as commercial banker, AVP at Northwest Bank. She says one of the most fulfilling aspects of her work is creating connections and helping local business owners find creative solutions that help them succeed. Wingert enjoys the variety the banking industry brings and says that wearing many hats keeps her role exciting and rewarding. She and her husband had what she called a “humbling and unforgettable experience” when they spent five days off the grid in the Boundary Waters, where they lived off the food and supplies they could carry in. Wingert recharges by staying active, and enjoys walking her dog, playing pickleball and spending time with loved ones.

This week’s IBA Member Spotlight highlights Julia Mason with South Story Bank & Trust!

Julia Mason is passionate about serving others and supporting her team in her role as AVP, operations manager at South Story Bank & Trust. After retiring from the military following 22 years of service, Mason was surprised by the many similarities between military service and banking, including the importance of teamwork, accountability, risk management and, most importantly, taking care of the people who depend on you. The best career advice she’s received is “Mission First, People Always,” recognizing when employees are taken care of, they are better able to invest in customers. Outside of work, Mason enjoys traveling, having visited 22 countries and nearly all 50 states, reading multiple books a week, and spending time outdoors with her husband and 15-year-old, including hiking, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. She especially looks forward to summer trips to the Boundary Waters of Canada.
