3.6% increase in COLA as well as 3.5% increase projected part B premium. The 11 of the last 17 years that part B went up more than the COLA make me sad because I help senior citizens as a part of my job. This year it's pretty even. I'd love to see it go down to counter the increases in the other medical premiums.

One of the biggest changes in Iowa Medicare for 2027 is all Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage Plans are leaving Iowa. If you have this, your last day of coverage is December 31, 2026. You must enroll in a replacement plan no later than December 31, 2026, for the new plan to become effective January 1, 2027.

- The normal Annual Enrollment deadline is December 7.
- Because the plan is leaving Iowa, you receive a special enrollment period from December 8, 2026, through February 28, 2027.
- An enrollment completed December 8–31 will still start January 1.
- If you wait until January, your coverage will temporarily default to Original Medicare (WITH NO DRUG COVERAGE IN JANUARY), and the replacement plan generally won’t begin until February 1. If you wait until February, the replacement plan won't begin until March 1st (WITH NO DRUG COVERAGE JANUARY AND FEBRUARY).
-This also opens up guarantee issue for Original Medicare... meaning you can get a Medicare supplement and drug plan with no health questions! This is very rare and incredible for someone that has a lot of health issues that they are tired of paying copays each time and would rather just have a monthly premium instead.

Best practice: complete the change by December 7, but the absolute deadline for a January 1 effective date is December 31, 2026.

Lately, a lot of clients are confused about paper and electronic bonds. Save this or share with your friends and family. If you have savings bonds, they only earn interest for so many years and then they are considered "matured". After they mature, you are doing yourself no favors by letting them sit idle. It's like having money under your mattress. They are no longer earning anything extra. Not sure what the status is? You can easily check the treasurer's website with the certificate number! You don't even have to bring them to a bank anymore, you just fill out the form and mail it in with this form.
