Edward Jones-Financial Advisor: Derek Nelson

Edward Jones-Financial Advisor: Derek Nelson This is the official page for Derek Nelson, CFP®, Financial Advisor for Edward Jones in Johnston, Iowa. My faith and family are everything to me.

My investing experience started when my high school government teacher engaged a small group of us to collectively invest. I will never forget and am grateful for the experience. Since then, I have had more than 25 years of stock (equity) trading experience. Prior to Edward Jones, I spent 15+ years working for two publicly traded and two privately owned corporations. Those experiences helped me fu

lfill a dream of completing my Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Iowa. My undergraduate degree is from Drake University. Recently, I earned my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® or CFP® certification. It's helped me deepen the way I guide clients through their financial decisions and given me a fresh perspective on their long-term goals. As a lifelong learner, I'm always looking for new ways to grow and better serve the families I work with. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, I bring knowledge in tax-sensitive investment strategies, retirement planning, retirement income and social security strategies, as well as estate considerations. Achieving the CFP® certification reflects my commitment to ongoing education and adherence to the highest ethical standards set by the CFP Board's Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct. The reason I joined Edward Jones is due to my faith leading me back to the core of wanting to help others after my corporate experiences. I was an Edward Jones client, and I was referred into our firm by my financial advisor. My business is so much more than just a job – it's an opportunity for me to fulfill my passion of improving the lives of families and businesses in the central Iowa community. Our family (wife, Amanda, and three kids) lives in Johnston, Iowa. They keep me humble, patient and grounded. I am active in my church and love serving my local community, spending time with family and friends, traveling and watching/participating in sports. Edward Jones combines my investment philosophy with my personal values. I want to always understand what's important to you, work through our established process and partner together over the long term. Our company's culture emphasizes creating a positive impact for our clients, neighbors and communities. I believe that's what life is all about. Call us or stop by the branch – we look forward to seeing you!
