While we dream of warmer, backyard pool days, we can use these cold, stuck-inside-days to knock out some planning themes of 2025. Here’s one to put on your list if you haven’t already done so: estate planning.

We cannot overstate this ESSENTIAL task enough, especially if you’re married and have children.

If something were to happen to you:

❓ Who is managing all your affairs?
❓ What is happening with all your assets?
❓ Where do the persons you choose locate everything?
❓ When does this plan come into play?

Sit with your partner over a dry-January mocktail and have this conversation. Sure, it’s morbid, but a well-designed estate plan also covers events when you’re still alive. It’s better to design it now or have its design forced upon you when you may be incapable of having an opinion.

If you’re like me, you started your career trading your time for a paycheck. Soon, you realized that that was a failing equation with an impossible ability to balance either side.

While the world moved at a blistering pace, you chose to risk what few can by launching your own business.

And then a funny thing happened…you were right back to trading your time for (insert package deal/price). But this time, you incurred dozens of additional operational expenses that you didn’t have as an employee.

And perhaps after so many years you began questioning if it’s all worth it. And deep down you know the answer.

It is.

You’ve grown. And picked up a few hundred cuts along the way. You failed. Reinvented. Survived. Succeeding.

And look at you now.

You’re trading your knowledge, experience, skills, efficiencies, wisdom, and no longer time, for money.

Flip the script. Your value isn’t just your time. You cost X because all of the above, not because it’s going to take you a certain amount of time to deliver the project.

Know your worth.
