As we continue introducing the leadership shaping our future with First Merchants, we’re excited to spotlight another key leader. Meet Jamie Matthews, Managing Director of Corporate Banking!
In this role, Jamie will lead the buildout of our middle market banking team, focusing on supporting commercial businesses across the Kentuckiana region. With more than 15 years of experience at First Merchants Bank, Jamie has held a variety of leadership roles, including Business Banker, Commercial Banking Relationship Manager, Manager of Commercial Banking, and Market President in both Muncie and Fort Wayne. His finance undergrad at Ball State along with his master’s from Central Michigan University brings a strong blend of expertise and leadership to our growing team.
We’re excited to see the impact he will make as we continue to expand our commercial banking presence.

With 30 years of banking experience, Travis brings a deep understanding of the industry and the communities we serve. Having spent most of his life in Clark County, he offers a strong local knowledge that helps guide his approach to building relationships and supporting customers. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of roles, including Branch Relationship Manager, Office Manager, Branch Manager, and District Manager — positioning him to provide clear direction and support to our teams while enhancing the service we deliver to our customers.
A graduate of Indiana University with a degree in business and a focus in marketing, Travis brings a people-first approach and proven experience to our team.

As we prepare to become First Merchants, we’re excited to introduce a familiar face stepping into a key leadership role. Meet Eric Howard, our Market President for southern Indiana.

As Market President, Eric’s primary focus will be serving our Community Banking clients—strengthening relationships, supporting local businesses, and helping individuals and organizations navigate their financial goals with confidence. With 38 years in banking, including 28 years in commercial banking, Eric brings deep expertise across lending, credit, operations, and executive leadership. He has served as Chief Lending Officer and Chairman of the Bank Loan Committee at First Savings Bank since 2014. Beyond the bank, Eric is actively involved in our community, serving on the Boards of One Southern Indiana (1si) and the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana.
His experience, leadership, and commitment to our region make him a strong guide for what’s ahead.
