This Arbor Day (Friday, April 25), the seeds of environmental stewardship will be planted by more than 55,000 fourth-grade students across Wisconsin.
Each year, the Wisconsin DNR donates tree seedlings to every public, private and home-schooled fourth-grade student in the state, upon their school’s request. This year, 1,084 schools requested a total of 55,508 seedlings, all prepared and sent out by the busy folks from the DNR’s Reforestation staff. That’s a 12.4 percent increase over last year and the largest total since 2011.
Watch for announcements from your local school about its participation in the fourth-grade seedling program!
