Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7): You can switch your Medicare Advantage plans, return to Original Medicare, or change prescription drug plans. Changes start on January 1.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31): If you already have a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to a different one or drop it to return to Original Medicare once during this window.

Special Circumstances
Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): You can change plans outside these windows if you experience specific life events. Examples include moving out of your plan's service area, losing other insurance, or qualifying for Medicaid.

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is specifically for reviewing and changing Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. For 2026, the AEP runs October 15 - December 7, with changes generally effective January 1, 2027.
