From all of us at the Melissa Tafoya State Farm Office, we want to make sure you and your family are prepared before a storm is headed our way.
Along with your hurricane emergency kit, here’s one thing I would personally add:
📱 Take a video of your home—inside AND outside.
Open closets, cabinets, drawers, the garage and storage areas. Take pictures of your important belongings too, and email the videos and photos to yourself so you can easily access them if you ever need them.
When disaster happens, it can be overwhelming for everyone involved. In the stress of the moment, it can be difficult to remember everything you owned or what may be missing or damaged. Having photos and videos saved gives you a little extra peace of mind—you have a record available at the click of a button.
❤️ Get your emergency kits ready. Get the kids involved. Gather your important papers and keep them somewhere you can grab quickly. Being prepared now can make an already stressful situation a little easier on you and your family.
And remember, your emergency kit can grow and change over the years. Add what your family needs and remove what you no longer use. The important thing is to START.

Hurricane Emergency Kit Checklist Suggestions
Prepare enough supplies for at least 3–7 days for everyone in your household, including pets.
💧 Food & Water
* Water — 1 gallon per person, per day
* Non-perishable food
* Manual can opener
* Snacks/protein bars
* Disposable plates, cups & utensils
* Pet food & extra water
🔦 Power & Lighting
* Flashlights
* Extra batteries
* Battery-powered lanterns
* Portable phone chargers/power banks
* Battery or hand-crank weather radio
* Car chargers
* Generator & fuel, if applicable — operate generators outdoors only, well away from the home
🩹 Medical & Personal Items
* First-aid kit
* Prescription medications
* Over-the-counter medications
* Glasses/contact supplies
* Personal hygiene products
* Hand sanitizer & disinfecting wipes

* Turn on emergency/weather alerts
* Make sure family members know where to meet if separated
* Follow evacuation orders from local emergency officials
