I just got off the phone with the IRS.
After 3 days of calling and getting disconnected around the 90-minute mark, I finally got through today. On day 4, I was on hold for nearly 2 hours before someone answered.
Even on the special hotline for tax preparers, the wait was brutal.
From start to finish, the call took 3 hours and 4 minutes.
The IRS representative was very helpful, but when I mentioned the hold times, her response was simple:
“We are understaffed.”
The reality is this:
