They work on improving credit, budgeting, saving, decreasing debt, and more. Jamie was able to work with the FEC, and she is going into her home debt free! Pretending to be a friend, potential employer, or love interest in order to steal identities or receive gifts and money is one of the most common tactics scammers use. Regardless of what they may promise or tell you, do not give your information or send any funds when asked by someone you have only ever communicated with online or over the phone.

Credible entrepreneurs and professionals know that there are little to no guarantees in business.
Bad actors attempting to steal from you use "get rich quick" schemes or similar illegitimate opportunities to lure you into obligating yourself. Always do your own research and due diligence before agreeing to any business deal, investment opportunity, or funds transfer. Read all documentation and agreements thoroughly and consult with your attorney before signing contracts and promissory notes.

If you were previously unaware that a payment was needed and you haven't received prior notice by mail, contact the company or agency through your usual means to verify what you do or do not owe.

Have you heard the saying, "there is no such thing as a free lunch," before? Well, it's typically true. Promises of free trips, cash, and other prizes that you have not knowingly entered to win are usually a scammer's way of getting your personal information or money. Ignore their requests and block the number or e-mail address that they used to contact you. Never cash or deposit checks and money orders you receive by surprise from an unknown source.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Research your investment and financial advisors: make sure they are certified and held to the fiduciary standard. This specific requirement states that an advisor must put their clients' interest above their own and must follow the very best course of action, regardless of how it affects them personally or their income.
