Fun Committee collects aluminum can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House charity
Have you been saving the aluminum tabs from your pop/beer cans? If not, start saving them because First National Bank & Trust’s Fun Committee has teamed up with Stacey Lantagne from Crafters on Central to be an ongoing public drop off site at each of their locations. Stacey recently picked up 64.4 pounds of tabs that people dropped off at the various bank locations over the last few months and will be delivering them to the Ronald McDonald House next week.
After personally experiencing the hospitality provided to her family, Stacey’s mission has been to give back to the Ronald McDonald House by holding benefits, collecting Wish List items and aluminum can tabs for the Milwaukee location. Stacey’s next visit is planned for November. You can find more information on the RMHC’s Wish List and upcoming activities in her newsletter found on the Crafters On Central website www.craftersoncentral.com or their page Crafters on Central.
When a child faces a serious medical crisis, families are confronted an impossible choice: Stay by their child's bedside or return home to work, care for siblings and maintain some semblance of normal life. The Ronald McDonald House, a non-profit organization, provides a full scope of services to families including navigating their child's medical treatment, and providing housing, transportation, meals, education, and psychosocial support at no cost to the families. A recent study in the Journal of Community Health revealed that Ronald McDonald House provides about 87% of all temporary housing for families with hospitalized children in the U.S. There are nearly 400 houses and 300 hospital-based family rooms worldwide.
According to Lantagne, “No amount is too big or too small and every bit is very much appreciated.” The RMHC has raised over $4 million in the last 50 years by recycling the aluminum tabs. These funds are used to offset operational expenses so every family can have a free home away from home while their children receive critical medical care. “If you missed this pickup, don’t worry. We make two trips a year and we will get them when we go again in December.”
41 Lumber donated the bright green collection containers that are located in the bank’s lobbies. The public is welcome to drop off donations during regular banking hours. Locations include the Iron Mountain downtown main office, South Branch near Home Depot, Kingsford Branch on Carpenter Ave, and the Menominee, Iron River and Marquette offices.
Since 1887 First National Bank & Trust has been heavily involved in our communities. They are one of the oldest and largest independently owned banks in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. First National is a full service, FDIC federally insured bank providing five banking locations. Other locations and services include Marquette’s First National Trust & Wealth Management office and Digital Services in Iron Mountain.
