💊 You don’t have to qualify for the Medicare prescription payment program based on a certain cost of your drugs.

✅ Everyone can participate!

If your annual expected drug cost are over $600 then the government requires your drug plan to notify you about the existence of the Medicare prescription payment program, but even if your drug costs are going to be under $600 you’re still eligible to spread that cost out evenly over the 12 calendar months.

It’s kind of like free layaway there is no cost to participate.

💡 Also, it does not lower your cost of drugs , you will contact your Medicare drug company directly to participate.

If you searched for your drug on medicare.gov, it doesn’t come up that means that NO plan is covering it. 🫪

This is going to be more common in your search for the best plan for 2027.

It may even be a cheap drug that is no longer covered.

🛑 Your eyes are not deceiving you!

 I’m supposed to tell you to enroll in the best plan for your other drugs and then once you’re enrolled to apply for an exception for the drug that’s not covered from your drug company.

🤯 They don’t have to grant the exception and I don’t want you to get your hopes up, but it is possible to get an exception.

💥💥 It’s more likely they won’t grant the exception and you’ll have to pay for that drug on your own.

Typically that drug is a very very expensive drug and you might be able to get assistance directly through the manufacturers website of that drug.  Check all your resources available to you.

Here’s how Traditional Medicare (also called Original Medicare) works:

🏥 PART A = Hospital Insurance
Helps cover inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care under certain conditions, hospice and some home health care.

🩺 PART B = Medical Insurance
Helps cover doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services and other medically necessary services.

💊 PART D = Prescription Drug Coverage
Helps pay for prescription medications. With Original Medicare, you can purchase a separate Part D plan through a private insurance company.

🛡️ MEDIGAP = Medicare Supplement Insurance
Helps pay some of the out-of-pocket costs Original Medicare leaves behind, like deductibles and coinsurance. It’s sold by private insurance companies.

Here’s the important part:

Part A + Part B = Original Medicare.

You can add a Part D plan for prescription coverage and a Medigap policy to help with medical out-of-pocket expenses.

Tomorrow, October 15th, marks the start of Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), running through December 7th. 📆

Here's what's important to know:

AEP is primarily about your 💊 Part D prescription drug plan or Medicare Advantage plan.

This is your window to review your plans and make changes if needed.

💙 Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are NOT affected by AEP.

If you have a Medicare Supplement, you do not need to make any changes to it during AEP.
You DO need to review your drug plan.
If you have reviewed your drug plan and you’re OK with the changes on that plan for next year, you don't have to do anything! ✅ Your coverage will simply continue.

⭐️ Be smart and to do a quick review each year, since plan costs, drug tiers, and formularies can change from one year to the next.
