👁️ Glaucoma is sometimes called the “silent thief of sight.” That's because about half of people who have it don’t even know it, and vision loss is usually permanent. The early stages of glaucoma typically have no symptoms.

The only way to detect glaucoma early is through a painless eye exam. Medicare Part B covers a glaucoma screening once every 12 months if you’re at high risk. This includes those with diabetes or with a family history of glaucoma, as well as those of African American ancestry over 50 and of Hispanic ancestry over 65.

If you’re in a high-risk group, talk to your doctor about scheduling a screening.

Medicare covers screenings every 12 months for people at high risk for glaucoma. Learn more.

🚨 Every year, scammers target Medicare beneficiaries with phone calls, emails, and even door-to-door visits. They may claim to be from Medicare or an insurance company and try to get your personal information.

Watch out for:
• Unsolicited calls about “new” or replacement Medicare cards
• Offers for free genetic testing or health screenings
• Promises of rebates or switching you to a “better” plan
• Bills for services or equipment you never received

Here’s how to protect yourself:
✅ Never share your Medicare number or banking details with someone who contacts you unexpectedly
✅ Be skeptical of anything that sounds too good to be true
✅ Check your Medicare Summary Notices and Explanation of Benefits regularly
✅ Report anything suspicious to 1-800-MEDICARE or contact your local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) for help.

Fraud doesn’t just affect you — it increases healthcare costs for everyone. Staying informed is the best defense.

Senior Medicare Patrols (SMPs) empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse.

When’s the Right Time to Buy Long-Term Care Insurance?

No one wants to think about needing help with everyday tasks like bathing or getting dressed—but the truth is, many of us will face that reality someday. The big question is: When should you buy long-term care insurance?

Buy too early, and you could pay for decades before using it. Wait too long, and you risk higher premiums—or being declined for coverage altogether.

Here’s a quick look at annual premiums for a basic policy (Genworth 2023):
👤 Age 55: $2,004
👤 Age 65: $2,846
👤 Age 75: $9,603

📌 That’s why your 50s or early 60s are often the sweet spot—balancing affordability with smart planning.

👉 Long-term care insurance can help cover costs that Medicare doesn’t, like:
• In-home care
• Assisted living
• Nursing homes
• Adult day care
• Home safety modifications
• Care coordination services

Before you shop, know the key terms:
🔹 Benefit Triggers – When the policy kicks in (like needing help with daily activities)
🔹 Inflation Protection – Helps your benefit keep up with rising care costs
🔹 Elimination Period – How long you wait before benefits begin (longer = lower premium)

💬 The bottom line? Buying coverage isn’t about fear—it’s about control. It’s a way to protect your savings, your independence, and your family’s peace of mind.

If you’re wondering whether now’s the right time to look into long-term care insurance, let’s chat. No pressure—just clear answers and smart guidance.

What’s the Difference Between a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit and an Annual Physical?

If you’re on Medicare, don’t let the terms fool you—an Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) and a traditional physical exam are not the same thing.

👉 Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) – Covered by Medicare Part B

This visit is focused on prevention and future planning. It includes:
✔️ Reviewing your medical and family history
✔️ Checking your height, weight, blood pressure, and BMI
✔️ Cognitive screenings and fall risk assessment
✔️ Personalized screening and wellness plan
❌ No hands-on physical exam or lab work is included.

🚫 Annual Physical Exam – NOT covered by Medicare

This is the full head-to-toe check-up you might be used to, including:
🔬 Blood tests and lab work
🩺 Listening to heart and lungs
💉 Updating vaccines
⚕️ Checking reflexes and screening for new medical conditions

Since Medicare doesn't cover physicals, scheduling one could lead to out-of-pocket costs—especially if extra tests are involved.

📅 Medicare covers one Annual Wellness Visit every 12 months, starting 12 months after your Part B coverage begins.

✅ Tip: When you make your appointment, confirm with your doctor’s office that it will be billed as a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit.

Spring Here, Fall There?

As spring blooms across the U.S.—with longer days, fresh flowers, and birds returning—it’s easy to forget that, on the other side of the world, the seasons are shifting in the opposite direction.

In places like New Zealand and Argentina, it’s the start of autumn. While we’re planting gardens and turning on the A/C, others are prepping for chilly weather, warm drinks, and even ski season.

It’s a simple but powerful reminder of how connected—and diverse—our world really is.

Have you ever traveled somewhere with opposite seasons?
What surprised you the most? Celebrating Christmas in summer? Skiing in July? Or just experiencing a new rhythm of life?
